Was $1149.99

Comments: Acer’s Helios Neo 16 is generally one of the more expensive and better options at the mid-range - and this is the lowest we’ve ever seen this configuration on sale for.

Granted it’s only $10 lower than the previous record low we saw, but that was back in October.

This is just a great all round gaming laptop, which is why it made it into my top 5 best gaming laptops of 2024 video. The main issue to be aware of is it’s also one of the heavier 16” models out there, so less ideal if portability is a priority.

The newer 2024 model with higher tier i9-14900HX processor and double the SSD is currently on sale for $1049.99 at Best Buy - but that’s $50 higher than the all-time record low price.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070

RAM: 16GB DDR5-4800

Display: 15.6” 2560 × 1440 165Hz

SSD: 1TB

Save $698 (41%) New Record Low!
Was $1697

Note: Before sale price is not listed on amazon, so we are using the current price from eluktronics.com, which does not appear to have this same sale.

Comments: Pretty much any time an RTX 4070 gaming laptop hits $1000 or lower it’s going to be a great deal.

It’s been a couple of years since we reviewed an RP-15 from Eluktronics, but it was a solid model back then.

But if you’re after an even cheaper 4070 option, the deal we shared last week on Lenovo’s LOQ 15 is still $879.99 at Walmart is still available.

The compromise is it has a 7435HS processor, which means worse single & multi core performance compared to the 7840HS in the RP-15, and the 7435HS does not have integrated graphics, so battery life sucks.

These are some nice deals - but sales change over time. Our https://gaminglaptop.deals website is updated multiple times a day, so check it out regularly to save money 🤑

Tip of the Week - SSD Upgrades

Upgrading your SSD? There are some important things to consider!

  1. Capacity: How much data do you need to store? For an upgrade, personally I think 1TB is the minimum worth considering, but it depends on your personal use and how much more data you’re expecting to store in future.

  2. Speed: PCIe Gen 3 drives max out at around ~3500MB/s, while Gen 4 drives can double this at close to ~7000MB/s. Gen 5 drives double this again, but as of right now, very few gaming laptops actually support them. If your laptop supports Gen 4, buying a Gen 4 drive can result in faster load times. But check benchmarks and reviews, because a Gen 4 SSD may perform worse than a Gen 3 drive as there are more things to consider (such as NAND chips used, cache, storage controller etc).

  3. Physical size: 2280 is the most common M.2 size and is available in sizes up to 8TB, while the smaller 2230 size currently maxes out at 2TB. Some laptops like the Alienware m18 R2 have dedicated 2230 slots, which only fit smaller, less common drives. Drives of higher capacities may also have chips on both sides, but the M.2 slot on some laptops may only fit drives with chips on one side. Unfortunately this is not something I’ve ever seen listed on a laptop’s spec sheet, which is why I always mention it in our laptop reviews.

  4. Connector: Pretty much all modern laptops use the rectangular M.2 connector, but it’s worth checking your laptop or the spec sheet before buying an SSD.

  5. Interface: The difference here is SATA or NVMe/PCIe. The later is faster and is more common these days, but older laptops may have SATA only M.2 slots. Your best bet is to either check the spec sheet, or see if the port inside the laptop is physically labeled. SATA drives max out at 600MB/s, so there’s no point spending more for a PCIe drive if it will either run slower or not fit at all.
